FRP Solar Street Light Poles
FRP Solar Street Light Poles: Powering India's Off-Grid Lighting Future
India's push toward solar-powered street lighting under the Smart Cities Mission, AMRUT, and rural electrification programs has created demand for poles that match the longevity of solar panels themselves. Conventional steel and concrete poles corrode within 8-10 years in coastal and rural environments, forcing replacement long before the LED fixture or PV panel reaches end of life. Helipole's FRP composite solar street light poles solve this with a 40-50 year service life, zero corrosion, and a structural design optimised for solar panel and battery mounting.
Why FRP for Solar Lighting Installations
Solar street lights are typically deployed in locations where access for maintenance is limited — rural roads, highway stretches, coastal causeways, and infrastructure corridors. The total installed cost includes not just the pole, but also transport, foundation, lifting equipment, and skilled labour. Helipole composite poles weigh roughly 1/8th of an equivalent concrete pole and 1/3rd of a steel pole, which translates directly into:
- Lower transport cost per kilometre, especially for remote rural site
- Manual installation possible without heavy cranes for poles up to 9m
- Smaller foundation requirement — reducing civil works cost
- Faster project completion across distributed deployment
Built for Solar Panel and Battery Mounting
Helipole solar street light poles are engineered with mounting provisions for solar panels (mono- or poly-crystalline), battery boxes, charge controllers, and LED luminaires. Available variants include:
- Heights: 4m, 5m, 6m, 7m, 8m, and 9m standard; custom heights on request
- Pole types: Round tapered and octagonal sections
- Mounting: Burial type and flange-mounted (for paved/concrete surfaces)
- Solar panel adaptors: Top-mount brackets sized for 50W to 200W panels
- Battery housing: Optional integrated battery compartment with weather seal
- Cable management: Internal conduit routing — no external wiring exposed to UV or theft
Built to Outlast the Solar System
Helipole FRP poles use 65-70% glass fibre content with epoxy/vinyl ester resin systems, manufactured on Siemens CNC filament winding machines. The result is a pole rated for 180 kmph wind loads, fully non-conductive, UV-stabilised, and immune to rust, rot, and termite attack. Salt spray, monsoon humidity, and chemical fertiliser runoff have no measurable effect on long-term integrity.
Every pole is designed using ANSYS stress analysis and conforms to ASTM and BS EN standards. The non-conductive surface is a critical safety advantage in solar installations — no risk of induced voltage from damaged DC cables reaching the pole surface, and no earthing infrastructure required at remote sites.
